The first thing we have to say about The Real Deal eBook by the self-proclaimed Real Straightshooter is that it does, in fact, shoot straight. Second thing is, it's funny. Which is the really his whole point. This book is about being different.

Straightshooter lets you know what you're in for from the start:

"A lot of eBooks will start out with the author telling you what a genius they are. They'll tell you how they are a leader, a captain of industry, or a guru. Anyone claiming to be an expert in online marketing is usually full of it. I've been at this game for a long time and I would have to be a fool to tell you I know everything. In a rapidly changing environment such as the internet, it's impossible to know everything."

You gotta admire his chutzpah. And there's more. While not offering a primer on ethics, Straightshooter does discourage affiliate sleaze tactics with this pithy reminder:

"Just remember that what goes around, comes around. People who lie, con, cheat and steal always pay the price sooner or later. Some people are never successful because all they care about is making a quick buck. You can make a lot of money online without giving someone else the short end of the stick."

This frank introduction to the world of affiliate marketing is not so much a how-to as a why-to, or sometimes a why-not-to. Compared to our other top-ranked affiliate programs, The Real Deal offers less detail and fewer specific examples. However, you can count on ol' Straightshooter to reveal little inside scoops that most of the others either don't know, or won't tell you.

The Real Deal focuses primarily on mastering online marketing and less on research tools, software and the technical aspects of webmastering. Straightshooter offers advice on the psychological components of sales pitches, and advice on how to choose products to promote, including somewhat unconventional advice about affiliate programs offering commissions higher than 50%. You may not agree that these theories always hold true (we're not sure we do), but it's at least a fresh perspective that's sure to encourage analytical thinking.

The Real Deal includes unique bits of advice that you're unlikely to find anywhere else. Tricks for edging out AdSense competition. A frank reality check on search engine optimization, and advice on fighting the ongoing battle of maintaining your page rank. Using pay-per-click advertising to generate traffic as opposed to "staking your entire internet existence on optimizing your website for free traffic." (This trick we particularly liked, sneaky though it is.)

We recommend the The Real Deal. If nothing else, it's a candid, entertaining read that offers a gutsy perspective on affiliate marketing.
