Aside from a title with nice alliteration, what Easy Chair Millionaire does have going for it is a frank point of view.
Unfortunately, that point of view is frequently riddled with brash dismissals of affiliate marketing revenue streams which any experienced marketer will tell you can be extraordinarily profitable. And then there are the factual inaccuracies, which are casually tossed about in support positions that are tenuous at best. Here's one glaring example:
"Google generates 95% of search traffic, so I always use Google, no matter what."
Well, while Google is undeniably the dominant player in the search engine wars, that 95% figure is way off the mark. (See Traffic Watch: Search Engine Market Share for recent statistics.) And even if Google did control a 95% market share, this oversimplifified view doesn't take into account the demographics of the major search engines, which is, of course, critical to generating targeted traffic. (See our story on search engine conversion rates…) This flawed statistic has been floating around the internet for years, repeated from one affiliate marketing ebook after another, but it's simply inaccurate.
Easy Chair Millionaire advocates pay-per-click advertising, pay-per-click advertising, pay-per-click advertising...in lieu of, well, all other revenue streams. In lieu of creating an original product. In lieu of building anything, including a web site. In lieu of anything that smells like work. The illusive author, for example, advises against "wasting time on SEO:"
The only reason you're still seeing tons of information about SEO for your own site is because people aren't yet privy to the new way of making money on the 'net.
This "new way of making money" (Google AdWords) is hardly new, and Easy Chair Millionaire is not exactly the bearer of earth-shattering insider information. And dangerously, such platitudes ignore the current pay-per-click revolution and assume that you'll have — or will develop — the expertise required to earn a steady, dependable stream of income from Google Cash'ing alone… without really telling you how. Since Google now severely restricts arbitragers and Yahoo Publisher Network ads must link to a web page, a steady, dependable Google Cash income is a little trickier to pull off than it used to be. The Easy Chair Millionaire does concede that you might have to "get up out of your easy chair" to develop one-page landing pages to get around the arbitrage problem, but doesn't really offer sage advice on how.
The view from the Easy Chair is, at every turn, an oversimplification. The bidding strategies probably won't send you to the poorhouse, but they won't earn you much money either. You're told that "Google AdWords is an online wizard — it's so easy a two-year old could do it (to some degree)." Aside from the fact that you'd probably have to look pretty hard to find a two-year-old with typing and mousing proficiency, even the seemingly less significant settings you apply to your ad campaigns (countries to display ads to, for example) can have a major effect on click-throughs.
With the exception of scattered tidbits on other affiliate promotional methods — such as the brief section on offline promotion…magazine ads, classified newspaper ads, flyers, postcards, and bumper stickers — Easy Chair Millionaire focuses entirely Google AdWords campaigns. It should be marketed as such. Clearly modeled after Rich Jerk, Easy Chair Millionaire is Rich Jerk Lite. Half the taste, less filling. Easy Chair Millionaire is fundamentally an AdWords guide masquerading (sort of) as a comprehensive affiliate "system," yet, this ebook contains nowhere near the depth of instruction on pay-per-click advertising found in AdWords Miracle or Beating AdWords, or for that matter, even Google Cash, which also focuses on the Google Cash method.
It might be a little overly optimistic to suggest that one can AdWords one's way to millionaire status from a recliner. Driving hordes of traffic to your target via the Google Cash (no-website) method is easiest for lucrative, noncompetitive niches, of course. And it can be done. But you'll have to crawl out of your recliner to do it. Easy Chair Millionaire is, in the end, long on bravado, short on value. You've probably guessed by now that we don't recommend buying it. But if you want to learn more about Easy Chair Millionaire...
