GOOGLE ADWORDS: EDITORIAL GUIDELINES FOR VIDEO ADS
SOURCE: Google Adwords Blogspot

Like all AdWords advertising, the video ads you create should emphasize the unique benefits of your product or service.

In general, the policies for video ads build on our existing Image Ad Guidelines. However, as they are not identical, please review the additional Video Ad Specifications below to ensure your ad meets our guidelines. We reserve the right to modify or amend our policies at any time and the format requirements are subject to change.

Video Ad Specifications
Your video ad will require a static image that will appear in the player window when the webpage loads. If a user clicks the window or the play button, the video ad will initiate. The video ads will run in the following placements on sites that are part of the Google network:
  • 336 x 280 (Large rectangle)
  • 300 x 250 (Inline rectangle)
  • 250 x 250 (Square)
(See examples.)

Content Restrictions
The static image, audio, and video portions of your ad must not contain any adult content. They may not contain:
  • Any material intended for persons over 18.
  • Mature sexual themes.
  • Crude or indecent language.
  • Offensive or inappropriate language.
Static Image Requirements
Your video ad will display as a static image prior to user interaction. We will include your URL at the bottom of the ad. There are certain requirements for the static image:
  • Must be 50K or smaller.
  • Must be in .JPEG, .PNG, or .GIF format.
  • Must be 300x225, 300x250, 250x225, 250x250, 336x252, or 336x280 (some images may be resized).
Note that no animation is permitted for the static image of your video ad.
Audio Requirements

The audio portion of your video ad will be played upon user interaction with the ad. The audio must be encoded at volume less than or equal to -12 db.

Video Requirements
The video portion of your video ad will be played when a user interacts with the video. The video will not automatically replay; the user must click the play button to initiate a replay. Since videos are user-initiated, there are no frequency caps.

Video ads must have a maximum duration of 2 minutes.

The format of your video must be:
  • AVI, ASF, Quicktime, Windows Media, or MPEG
  • Minimum 14 frames-per-second (prefer 30 fps)
  • 4:3 aspect ratio (recommended; other aspects will be accepted but letterboxed)
